Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Everything (reading, compressing and rebuilding the PDF) happens in your browser using JavaScript. The file never leaves your computer, and it isn't saved anywhere - it's gone as soon as you close or refresh this tab.
Why does my text stop being selectable?
To guarantee the file gets smaller no matter what it contains, the tool turns every full page into a compressed image and rebuilds the PDF from those images. This shrinks any PDF, but the text stops being selectable, searchable or accessible, and forms, links and bookmarks are removed.
Does the file size always go down?
In the vast majority of cases, yes. But if your PDF is already well optimized (for example, with already-compressed images), converting it into images may not shrink it at that compression level. You'll always see the real resulting size before downloading, so you can try a higher compression level if needed.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
Not directly: if the file is password-protected, you first need to remove the protection (for example with your PDF reader) and then upload it here to compress it.
Is there a file size limit?
A max of 75MB is recommended for smooth in-browser processing, since everything happens in your device's memory. Files with many pages may be slow depending on your device.
